Origin and Production

Coffee History

Commercial coffee plantations developed in southern India in the eighteenth century. Diseases and pests affecting Arabica contributed to the spread of Robusta around the early twentieth century.

Species and Growing Region

The Coffee Board of India describes traditional growing areas along the Western Ghats in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Arabica and Robusta are distinct production options.
