Screen, Grade and Crop
The differences between screen size, origin-specific grading and crop season.
Screen Size
Screen describes bean size classification in units of 1/64 inch. Screen 17 corresponds to an opening of about 6.75 mm and screen 18 to about 7.14 mm.
A designation such as 17/18 indicates a lot's commercial size classification. Read size distribution and tolerances alongside the lot's technical terms. Larger beans alone do not mean a better cup.
Grade
Grade names are origin-specific. Brazil NY 2/3, Ethiopia Grade 1 and Kenya AA are not positions on the same universal scoring scale.
Do not substitute grade for a cup score. Consider grade, screen, physical measurements and lot tasting information together.
Hasat Sezonu
A lot's crop year or season range differs from a product's general harvest calendar. Months on the product page describe the regional calendar; the year on a lot refers to that batch.
Origins with multiple harvest periods may distinguish main and fly crops. A lot recorded as fly crop shows this information separately.
